BR #16: Crazy US leaked documents

Jul 23, 2023

(1-minute read)

This week a crazy document was leaked by the US government.

It states that the government will be nationalizing all potato production 🀯

  • Only the government will be able to grow and sell potatoes.
  • Growing potatoes at home will be a criminal offense and offenders will go to jail.
  • The price of the potatoes will be decided by the Federal Potato Reserve.

Every month the Federal Potato Reserve will analyze the prices of french fries, mashed potatoes, and hash browns.

Based on its findings the Federal Potato Reserve will determine the base price of raw potatoes.

The Federal Potato Reserve claims they know how to produce the highest quality potatoes in the world!

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ "We are determined to secure quality potatoes for every US citizen" reassured the chairman of the Potato Reserve.

πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ Inspired by this progressive capitalist policy, Japan will be nationalizing its rice industries to reinforce its commitment to capitalism.

πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί Europeans are also discussing nationalizing some industries...they just have not decided which exactly.

  • πŸ‡«πŸ‡· The French want to nationalize wine.
  • πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ The Germans insist on beer.
  • πŸ‡§πŸ‡¬ While the Bulgarians believe rakia should be nationalized.

Nevertheless, all EU states agreed that "Capitalism is the way forward!"

By now you probably realized this is a satirical fictional story I wrote :)

I hope you will agree that nationalizing potatoes is a genuinely stupid idea!

It really is!

If you think it is NOT a stupid idea, then this newsletter is not a good fit for you :)

And while we have a free market for unimportant goods such as potatoes, we do not have a free market for the one good which is part of every single transaction: money!

It has been normalized that governments have a full monopoly over:

  • The creation of money.
  • The price of money (interest rates at which we can get a loan)!

HOW CRAZY IS THAT!?

Having monopolized the biggest markets of all, can we really say that we live in a capitalist society?

Or can we see similarities with the Soviet Union, North Korea, and Cuba, where the prices of goods and services are determined by the governing central planners?

I hope this gave you found this thought-provoking and value-adding.
